Meridian is the 3rd largest city in Idaho. The city was originally known as Hunter when it was established in 1891, but was renamed two years later because it is located on the Boise Meridian. The Union Pacific Railroad opened in 1900. Industrial commercial still use this railroad to ship forest, agricultural, and chemical products.
Attractions
There is so much to do in Meridian. With many entertainment facilities like Roaring Springs, Wazoos, and the new Meridian Village that opened within the last few years, there is so much for the family to do. There are also lots of natural beauties found in Meridian. Eagle Island State Park is known for great hiking fishing and of course the water slide. Also located near meridian is the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area.
The Village at Meridian has become a huge destination point. With great indoor/outdoor shopping, the Edwards Cinema, food and the beautiful common area. This shopping center was built during 2013-2014 and is located near the heart of the city. Another great attraction is the Meridian Dairy Days, where people come to enjoy carnival rides, vendor’s arts and crafts and the animal competitions.
Population
As of the 2010 census there were 75,092 people living in Meridian. The median age in the city was 32.5 years. The gender makeup of the city was almost split half and half with 49.0% male and 51.0% female. There were 25,302 households of which 47.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them.
